Minnesingers in the Time of Covid-19
From the Director: Steering this group through the COVID-19 pandemic has been, besides mothering my own children, the most challenging and important task I hope to face. From my own experience in high school as a member of this group, I realize the hugely important role that belonging to a group like this takes on during stressful times. Being separated from each other during the spring of 2020 was so awful that we resumed rehearsal in July 2020 in order to be able to perform at the delayed high school graduation in August. Despite not knowing if or when we would be able to have a winter show, we started rehearsing in September 2020, outside, masked, 10’ of distance between us. The fact that the kids pulled off a beautiful video in place of a Winter Show 2020 is one of the proudest accomplishments of my career so far – the dedication of my students, their desire to come together despite so many unknowns, the love for singing and each other was and is truly inspiring. I look forward to an in-person show Mother’s Day weekend 2021 and hope for a resumption of more normal times next year, including a trip to Europe. Boy do these kids deserve it!
